If you’ve made a New Year’s resolution to get in shape, get healthy, and get your life back on track, you may be considering kicking your coffee habit. But we’re not suggesting that you give up coffee altogether. Quite the opposite.

Coffee provides a long list of health benefits when you enjoy it in moderation at 2 to 3 cups a day. Coffee is full of antioxidants and has been proven to prevent Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, gallstones, and even depression – among many other benefits.

But if you find yourself turning to coffee over and over again just to make it through the day, it is worth exploring a few other ways to naturally boost your energy:

  1. Try an apple. Apples are full of natural sugar, which will be converted into energy by your body. An apple can help to naturally boost energy levels without having to worry about a crash.
  2. Go for a quick power nap. If you have the time in your busy day, taking a quick power nap of 15 to 30 minutes will help to refresh and recharge your batteries. But be warned – if you sleep too deeply and go into REM sleep, you will wake up groggy.
  3. Check out the great outdoors. Exposing yourself to natural sunlight will give your body vitamin D to boost both mental performance and your mood. Just 10 minutes a day will do the trick!
