Perhaps you’re still suffering from a killer hangover from New Year’s Eve… If that’s the case, you may have already explored a number of urban myths claiming to quickly cure a hangover. But is it even possible to get rid of a hangover once it has set in after a night of too much fun?
There are quite a few hangover cures that have already been disproven by researchers over the decades, but coffee still remains an accepted hangover cure for the morning after. There have been some studies that theorize why coffee can’t help to cure a hangover, and a few scientists believe that coffee can even make a hangover worse. The two main reasons for this theory is because coffee can make you even more tired after the caffeine high is over, and it may dehydrate you since it is a diuretic.
But finally, scientists have come together to agree on what many coffee lovers have known the entire time. Taking a combination of aspirin and coffee is the perfect hangover cure – at least for rats. Based on research from the Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, rats were given anti-inflammatories and caffeine and found headache relief. The headaches were caused by ethanol – a pure form of alcohol – and created a similar affect to a splitting headache caused by a hangover.
